So today out of the box, pushed the old Mac under the table, connected the monitor, nothing else required, recognized at once, mirrors the Mac, so the Mac is dimmed and this cool monitor took over. Just for fun I did a little play before I hid the poor old Mac, yes it does split monitors with no problems.
Hi, Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see that you're experiencing issue with the HP Device Monitor on your Mac running OS X 10.11 El Capitan. I would be happy to help you and please remember to return to this thread and mark ' Accept as Solution ', if I have successfully helped you resolve the issue. If you wish to say ' thanks ' for my effort to help, click the ' thumbs up ' to give me a Kudos.
I understand that your CPU usage goes up to 60% with the HP Device Monitor running. I believe that the reason this is happening is because the HP Software you have installed was meant for Mac OS X 10.10. The HP Software is not available for your printer in Mac OS X 10.11, which likely why you're experiencing this issues.
It is not required to use the HP Software, you could use the Apple Update driver instead. Please follow the steps below. Reset the Print System: Please click for instructions on how to perform the Reset. When the website opens follow the steps under 'Resetting the printing system in OS X Lion' as the steps are the same for Mac OS X 10.10. This Reset will remove every printer from your Mac.
However, it does not uninstall the printers. Therefore, should you use other printers on this Mac, once the Reset is complete simply ensure that the printers are connected via a USB Cable or Network connected and (+) Add them back in. Do not add your HP Officejet back in at this time.
Once the reset is complete, please proceed to the next step. Uninstall Drivers and Software: Next, please click for steps on how to properly uninstall your printer. Once the site opens select the dropdown for ' Mac OS X v10.6, OS X v10.7, OS X v10.8, and OS X v10.9' and follow the steps under Method Two to complete the uninstall process. Once the uninstall is complete, please continue on. Verify and Repair your Disk Permissions on the Mac:. Open Macintosh HD and go to Applications. Go to the Utilities Folder.
Open the Disk Utility. Select the Hard Drive volume you are using (usually on the left). Select Verify Disk Permissions. Once that process is done, select Repair Disk Permissions Manually install Driver Package: Please click to manually download the Apple Update package for H P Printer Drivers v3.0. Once the website opens select the Download button at the top.
Follow the onscreen instructions to install the driver package. Check for Apple Updates:. Go to Apple.
Select System Preferences. Select Software Update. Click Update Now. Install your available updates. Restart your computer Add the Device: 1. Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences. Click Print & Scan, and then check if the name of your printer displays in the Printers list.
Click the name of your printer, click the minus sign ( ), and then delete the printer. Click the plus sign ( ), click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, 5. Click the Use or Print Using box, and then select the name of your printer in the pop-up menu. Ensure that the Officejet driver is selected.
Click Add to add the printer to the list. DO not add the AirPrint driver. Once your printer is successfully added in, please try printing again to verify that the issue is now resolved.
Source by my colleague. Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you. Good Luck!:). Hi, a year after this discussion. I am having the SAME issues.
CPU use is spiking, the computer is slow, and it is the HP Device Monitor sitting at the top of the pile. I have run through the 'fix' twice, but with zero improvement. Why not teach us to delete/disable the HP Device Monitor? Why would HP design such a memory hog? As I write this, it's humming along at between 63% and 80% of my CPU.
If I just uninstall all HP software, is there an alternate way to run my HP OfficeJet 4635 printer/scanner? Edit: Many of the suggestions in this solution do not really apply to El Capitan; for example, there is no longer a way to repair disk permissions.
Having the same problem. We seem to experience high CPU usage and/or memory problems. IMac Late 2009 with OSX 10.9.5 HP Deskjet 3050 I have read several threads etc.
I did perform the Printer Reset as well as Verify/Repair Disk Permissions. The Permission process did reference items under /Library/Printers. However, I see no files under that folder. Yet, HP Device Monitor was running and consuming unacceptable amounts of CPU Based on other threads, I kept looking for anything related to HP. Finally found com.hp.devicemonitor under /Library/Preferences I moved com.hp.devicemonitor to a dummy folder and restarted. HP Scan then started consuming unacceptable amounts of CPU.
I moved all hp.com. From /Library/Preferences to the dummy folder. I haven't tried to print. We rarely need to scan, but would be nice to be able to perform the action when needed. I have no HP folder or HP software under Applications.
At least none that I can see, so I have no idea how to actually uninstall the.bleep. software.
Any help would be appreciated. This is unbelievable.
I am having the same problem. HP - I used to LOVE you! I spend way too much time dealing with HP printer woes than I should be these last few years.
Who is running this company anyway? I'm on El Captain 10.11.6. What to do now? HP Device Monitor is messing up my computer and at the top of my activity monitor eating up CPUs.
I don't have time for this. Looks like my afternoon tomorrow will be working on yet another HP issue. Come on guys. You are going downhill. Time to dump HP printers for good. What is the fix??? Greetings, Thanks for the post.
I understand that you are facing an issue with HP Device manager. Happy to help. May I know which printer are you using?
Recommend you to uninstall the HP printer installed on your computer. Click for assistance. Reset the printing system by following the procedure mentioned in this. Restart your MAC and install the full feature driver by downloading it from Let me know how it goes. For better assistance, please provide the product number of your printer. Mac console was reporting a steady stream of this error: error 12:21 -0400 HP Device Monitor misuse at line 83399 of 2b0954060f I ran the uninstaller, deleted everything HP, and re-booted. The error kept on coming, even though there was no such process visible in Activity Monitor, and no HP software of any kind installed. I downloaded the latest drivers for this OS (10.13.5), to get the latest uninstaller. Ran that, and it seemed to solve the problem. Then I installed the 'essential' software for my printer. Now I have TWO errors repeatedly showing up - the original, and another from 'HP Product Research' with exactly the same complaint: error 12:36 -0400 HP Product Research misuse at line 83399 of 2b0954060f What's creepy is that there are no such processes running - at least, not so a user can see them. Anybody know what's up with these hidden processes (that are badly written?).
Welcome to the HP Forums! Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers. I reviewed your post and I understand that you are getting an error on the computer after installing the printer software. Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted. In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details. When was the last time the printer was working fine?. Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
While you respond to that, I recommend you follow the below steps and install the printer as an AirPrint printer and check whether it resolves the issue. Search the Mac for Print, and then click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners in the list of results. Find the printer names that match your printer from the list of devices. Figure: Printers and Scanner window with multiple names of a printer in the list. If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list. Leave one 'idle' printer in the list that matches your printer if available and use this printer as the Default printer.
Try printing again. If the printer prints, you can stop troubleshooting. If the printer remains offline or displays an error, continue to the next step. Step 4: Delete the existing print queue and add the printer Remove the printer queue from the list of printers, and then add it again. Doing so creates a new printing session. Make sure your Mac is connected to the Internet. In the Printers list, click your HP printer, and then click the Minus button to delete it.
Click the Add button. Find and select the name of your printer from the Printer list, and then click Add to add your printer. Do not select an HP Fax driver. NOTE: If your printer does not display in the list, make sure the printer is connected, turned on, has power, and is ready to print. Figure: Example of the printer selection list. Click Print Using or Use. Select the name of your printer (if available) or AirPrint.
Figure: Menu showing AirPrint selected Your new printer queue displays in the Printers list in an Idle status. Figure: Example of a newly added printer in the Printers & Scanners list. Try printing again.

It is great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated. The HP Device Monitor is old software you have installed and that is not compatible with new macOS. I recommend you use HP Easy Start to uninstall all HP software and then you will need to reinstall driver not from CD but from HP website. Follow the uninstall with HP Easy Start section. Let me know how it goes. Awaiting your reply! If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts, mark my post as Your feedback counts!
Take care:) Cheers!
